RE: The Thirty-sixth Convention of The Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee

DATE: November 17-18, 2017
LOCATION: St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Jackson, TN

Dear Rectors, Priests-in-charge, Clergy, and Wardens of The Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee,

The Thirty-sixth Annual Diocesan Convention will be held November 17-18, 2017. Meeting in Jackson, we will gather at St. Luke’s Church. We thank the Rev. Gayle McCarty, and St. Luke’s Vestry and staff for hosting the Diocese for this annual gathering.

To fully participate, all clergy and lay delegates must register. (Clergy who are non- stipendiary or licensed to officiate and retired clergy who are not currently actively serving in a parish/mission do not pay a registration fee but will pay for meals). Registration materials should be completed online at www.episwtn.org. The cost of registration is $85 and includes the registration fee for each clergy member and lay delegate and all meals (Friday and Saturday breakfast, lunch and snacks, and the Friday evening dinner). The registration fee does not include hotel accommodations.

Please complete your registration form and mail payment to the Diocesan Office no later than October 20, 2017.

The Convention will begin with daily registration on Friday, November 17th from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. and open with prayer at 9:00 a.m. The Convention will continue all day Friday, and will conclude on Saturday when the Convention agenda is completed at approximately noon. All members of your congregation, not just your delegates, are welcome and encouraged to attend any of the Convention events as a Guest. Convention attendees who are not delegates should also register separately as Guests at www.episwtn.org by October 20.

Our Convention Eucharist will begin at 5:00 pm on Friday evening. Reports from the Standing Committee regarding the status of the process of electing the Fourth Bishop of West Tennessee will also be offered in the course of the Convention proceedings.

With the announcement of the upcoming election of my successor, it is a great year to get more directly involved in the official elected and appointed ministry options available this year. This will give you the ability to directly participate in the planning that will be such an important part of the new beginning once the Fourth Bishop for West Tennessee is ordained in 2019. Consider which of ministry opportunity interests you and commit to offering your gifts and insights to accomplish this move into the future.

A list of leadership positions to be filled is online at www.episwtn.org. Nomination, Resolution and Necrology forms can be found online at this site. Diocesan leaders who have died since the last Convention and who you would like to have remembered in prayer should be added to the Necrology.

Nominations received in the Diocesan Office by November 1, 2017 will be published in the Convention notebook. Anyone nominated after November 1st is responsible for bringing 150 copies of their nomination form for distribution to Convention.

Resolutions must be received in the Diocesan Office by October 4, 2017.

Please check the Diocesan website for Convention updates.

Other details related to the Convention will follow as they become available. We appreciate your promptness in completing and returning your registration forms and payment. Please call the Diocesan Office if you have any questions.

Faithfully yours,

Bishop Johnson
