RE: The Thirty-seventh Convention of The Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee

DATE: November 16-17, 2018

LOCATION: St. George’s Episcopal Church, Germantown, TN

Dear Rectors, Priests-in-charge, Clergy and Wardens of The Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee,

The Thirty-seventh Annual Diocesan Convention will be held November 16-17, 2018. Meeting in Germantown, we will gather at St. George’s Church. We thank The Rev. Dr. Dorothy Wells, and St. George’s Vestry and staff for hosting the Diocese for this annual gathering.

To fully participate, all clergy and lay delegates must register. (Clergy who are non-stipendiary or licensed to officiate and retired clergy who are not currently actively serving in a parish/mission do not pay a registration fee but will pay for meals). Registration materials may be completed online using registration for Clergy and Lay Delegates of Faith Communities. All other canonically resident clergy should register at this link: Registration for Non-Stipendiary/Non-Parochial/Licensed to Officiate/Retired Clergy If you are unable to complete the forms online, please contact the Diocesan Office at 901- 937-4700 to request a hard copy. Registration for convention and food costs including 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and snacks continues to be $85 per person. The registration fee does not include hotel accommodations.

Please complete your registration form and mail payment to the Diocesan Office no later than October 8, 2017.

The Convention will begin with daily registration on Friday, November 16th from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. and open with prayer at 9:00 a.m. The Convention will continue all day Friday and will conclude on Saturday when the Convention agenda is completed at approximately noon. All members of your congregation, not just your delegates, are welcome and encouraged to attend any of the Convention events as a Guest. Convention attendees who are not delegates should also register separately as Guests at registration for guests by October 8.

We have planned to conclude the usual items of Convention business on Friday evening, after which we will gather for a time of worship, hymn singing and the Bishop’s Address.  This should allow us to end the day earlier and have an evening to rest and anticipate the next morning when the balloting for the next Bishop of West Tennessee will begin.

With the upcoming election of my successor, it is a great time for you to get more directly involved in the official elected and appointed ministry options available this year.  This will give you the ability to directly participate in the planning that will be such an important part of the new beginning once the Fourth Bishop for West Tennessee is ordained in 2019. Consider which of ministry opportunity interests you and commit to offering your gifts and insights to accomplish this move into the future.

Nominations and Resolution forms can be found online on this site. Diocesan leaders who have died since the last Convention and who you would like to have remembered in prayer should be added to the Necrology List using the form found at Necrology Form 2018.

A list of leadership positions to be filled can be found here.  Nominations received in the Diocesan Office by October 1, 2018, will be published in the Convention notebook in accordance with Convention Rules of Order # VIII.
