Special Friends Fellowship Club
In early 2016, a diocesan group comprised of parishioners from All Saints, Calvary, Grace St. Luke’s, Church of the Holy Communion, and St. Andrews Collierville joined together with a vision to create a ministry for adults with special needs.
The plan was developed and approved by Bishop Don Johnson, and the first meetings of The Special Friends Fellowship Club were held that summer. We found a home at All Saints Episcopal, where we meet from 5-7 two Sunday evenings a month during the school year.
Various parishes rotate the responsibility of volunteering at Special Friends, sharing dinner, worship, and an activity. Worship is based on a modified Evening Prayer service, and our participants fully participate in the service. Our activities include game nights, lots of painting and crafts, dances, Pickle Ball and other outdoor fun, Mardi Gras and other holiday celebrations.
How can you help?
- Volunteer through your parish group when they help with dinner and the evening activities. You can make food and/or come and help in person.
- Volunteer as an individual. We need helping hands on a regular or drop-in basis.
- If you have a special skill, especially music or art, we need you!
- Sponsor a meal, activity, or holiday by making a donation to Diocese of West Tennessee/Special Friends.
